Arboló

The hermitage of Mare de Déu d'Arboló, from the 12th century, lies on the old road that followed the Noguera Pallaresa upstream from Gerri. Every first Sunday in May, the place is the site of a local festival.

It is said that a single girl who on the day of the festival put her foot on top of the hermitage's balustrade would come back a married woman the following year.

The hermitage contains an image which is a focus for popular devotion and is a copy, made in 1940, of the original lost during the civil war.

The hermitage is built with very well made stone blocks, of variable sizes, carved from grey, ochre and red limestone that abounds around Arboló.
