During the construction of the barrages and retaining walls of the gorge, it became a quarry from which limestone rock was extracted to carve the stone blocks used in the building works.
At the top part of the nursery there is a barrage where the limestone blocks carved from rock that abounds in the same area can be seen.
This abundance of limestone was used to aid construction of the canalisation of the stream. It is from the Late Triassic.
Following the path that runs alongside the gorge towards Enseu, we reach the area where the grey clays used in the waterproofing of the canals and buildings of the salt works were extracted.
