Also known as El Mercadal (the Market) because the weekly market was held there, it offers fine views of the open valley where Gerri is situated. According to etymologist Joan Coromines, the name Gerri comes from Basque and means "an open place".
The small building attached to the right of the Alfolí was the "stall", where salt was sold retail. The stall was under the responsibility of the stallholder, who was granted a concession by the Producers Community. It stopped functioning in the 1920s.
The construction of the road and the general improvement in communications favoured the arrival of marine salt in the Pyrenees, at a price that directly jeopardised the commercialisation of salt from Gerri.
