The 500 m long channel originates in a small collection dam in front of the Compte locality and took in both waters from the river and from the Compte gorge.
From the Arboló road, in the foreground, the channel that took the river water to the mill and then to the water wheel in the pump house.
Panoramic view of the channel that runs parallel to the salt beds and the arcabotes. Due to the abandoning of the salt works activity, it is all gradually being colonised by vegetation.
From the old flour mill in Gerri to the elevation pump, the channel is 1 m wide and 0.8 m deep and has a system for regulating the flow using four sluices like that at the bottom of the photo.
The sluice system took the water to the elevation pump or alternatively to the river, via a channel system that crossed the salt bed crystallisation surfaces.
Some holes covered with sloping metal bars or overflows diverted the excess water transported by the channel to the river, thus completing the function of the sluices.
Upon reaching the salt beds, the channel, in some sections, ran below the salt beds and arcabotes.
