Motoboys ethnographing São Paolo

motoboys
12 motorcycle couriers in São Paulo report their daily lives using camera-phones and publish photos and videos to canal*MOTOBOY. In weekly meetings they discuss their shots and decide which topics to cover. All this creates an interesting an authentic view of street life at São Paulo. This project from zexe.net is part of “Colectivos transmiten desde teléfonos moviles” (collectives transmit by mobile phones) initiated by Catalan artist Antoni Abad and programmed by Eugenio Tisselli.

I got involved programming a simple smartphone client application to automatically geotag photos and videos with GPS position. After failing getting access to GPS by Java I had to do coding in C# for Windows Mobile. I’m really looking forward to open mobile phones like OpenMoko and free Java stacks for mobile Linux devices like JaLiMO.
